While reviewing the key words that people search to find this site, I discoverd that the phrase 'beat brown-nosers' comes up quite frequently. I find this interesting because it says that people perceive Brown-nosers to be some sort of a threat; otherwise why bother trying to beat them at anything?
My thoughts on this are very unambiguous. People want to beat brownnosers because they are winning the game. What most people fail to recognize is that these corporate brown nosers who are schmoozing the boss and getting ahead are using critical business and people skills that the rest of us need to master. The only way you can actually beat someone at their own game by actually playing the game!! DUH!!!
Don't think so? Look around your organization. Are the people with their noses to the grindstone the ones who are getting all the glory, promotions, pay and perks? Hummmmmm?????
Here is my advice. Remember that business is a game. It is a skillful game of positioning, networking, connecting and influence. The better you are at these things the more successful you will be. If you don't believe me, just continue doing what you are doing --- especially if it has been working so well for you. At some point you'll realize that you've stalled.
If you are ready to play you must make a committment to this effort. It will take time, practice and a lot of uncomfortable moments. But I promise, you can become one of those people who is noticed and recognized for their work, not just appreciated for it.
Think about it....
